ரயில் நிலையத்தின் அருகில் உள்ள வீடுகளின் கண்காணிப்பு கேமரா பதிவில் சந்தேகத்திற்குரிய நபரின் உருவம் பதிவானது தெரியவந்தது.

நேற்று காலை முதல் ஆடு மேய்த்துக் கொண்டிருந்த குற்றவாளி ராம்குமாரை போலீசார் தீவிரமாக கண்கானித்தனர்.
ஆடு மேய்த்து விட்டு மாலையில் வீடு கொலையாளி ராம்குமார் வீடு திரும்பிய பின்னரும் போலீசார் கண்காணித்தனர்.
பின்னர் இரவு 10 மணியளவில் ராம்குமாரை கைது செய்ய போலீசார் முயற்சித்தனர்.

ஆனால் போலீசாரை பார்த்த ராம்குமார் பிளேடால் கழுத்தை அறுத்துக்கொண்டு தற்கொலைக்கு முயன்றார்.
ராம்குமாரை போராடி கைது செய்த போலீசார் அவரை சிகிச்சைக்காக மருத்துவமனையில் அனுமதித்தனர்.
தற்போது பாளையங்கோட்டை அரசு மருத்துவமனையில் சேர்க்கப்பட்டுள்ள ராம்குமார், தீவிர சிகிச்சைக்குப் பின்னர் பேசினார்.

The govt. has started releasing 20,000 cubic feet per second of water from Chembarambakkam reservoir, the highest volume of outflow in several years.

Heavy rains today pounded several parts of Tamil Nadu and inundating most areas of Chennai, severely disrupting flights, train and bus services and forcing postponment of half-yearly school exams even as the state braced for more showers in next four days.

As the death toll in rain-related incidents touched 188, Chief Minister Jayalalithaaa reviewed the situation and deputed ministers to inspect the affected regions.

Half-yearly exams in schools, which were to have begun on December 7, were postponed. Schools were closed today and will remain shut tomorrow as well.

All flight operations at Chennai airport have been partially suspended until further review and a number of flights have been disrupted as waters inundated the runway and the tarmac. Airport officials said one flight, which had left Colombo this morning, returned. SpiceJet and Indigo tweeted saying the airfield had been closed due to flooding.

Motorists had a tough time as not only arterial roads like Anna Salai and, GST Road were inundated but also many interior roads. Also, many roads were damaged, with several of them caving in inconveniencing motorists.

Puducherry and its suburbs continued to be lashed by heavy rains since last night and it recorded 15.2 cm rain in the last 24 hours ending 0830 hours today.

Two columns of army’s Garrison Infantry Battalion have been pressed into service in Tambaram and Oorapakkam after the Tamil Nadu government sought military assistance. The Navy is also on stand-by.

National Disaster Rescue Force has already dispatched ten teams of which four are already in Chennai and the rest will be flying in tomorrow. “At the same time, we are also requisitioning teams from Bengaluru and Andhra Pradesh,” NDRF chief O P Singh said.

Rescue work will begin and NDRF would deploy more teams if required. Teams carrying boats will also be sent to Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur districts

Chennai deluged

Chennai City seems to be heading for a crisis of sorts as the government has started releasing 20,000 cubic feet per second of water from Chembarambakkam reservoir into Adyar. This is the highest volume of outflow from the reservoir in several years. On November 17, a day after the city received over 25 centimetres of rainfall, Public Works Department released 18,000 cusecs of water from the reservoir.

Chennai Collector E. Sundaravalli has issued a flood warning and appealed to families living along the Adyar river to move to safer places. Earlier in the day, it was increased to 5,000 cubic feet per second. The outflow was just 900 cusecs on Monday evening.

After pounding and battering the city for a month, heavy rains resumed overnight on Monday after a brief break for four days. For the 24 hours ending 8.30 a.m. on Tuesday, the rainfall level recorded in the city was 3 centimetres. Between morning and noon, the city received more than 8 centimetres, officials said.

Suburban train services on the Chennai Beach-Tambaram sector were crippled. Services on the Chennai Central-Tiruvallur sector were also disrupted. Arterial roads were flooded and traffic was affected.

Expect more rain

Heavy rains lashed parts of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, and neighbouring Puducherry, disrupting flight movement and leaving several areas inundated.

The picture looks no better for Wednesday with the weather office forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall for Tamil Nadu, especially over the northern districts of Chennai, Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram.

It also forecast heavy rains for Puducherry.

“The trough of low pressure now lies over Southwest Bay adjoining Sri Lanka off Tamil Nadu,” officials at the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) told PTI.

Under its influence, widespread rains are expected across the State on Wednesday, with the possibility of “scattered heavy to isolated very heavy rainfall over coastal districts,” they said.

The weather office forecast “isolated extremely heavy rainfall” for Chennai, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur which have been already been facing the brunt of the northeast monsoon since last month.

Schools, colleges shut

A holiday has been declared on Tuesday for educational institutions in these districts, which have been experiencing heavy downpour, officials said.

In Chennai, office-goers found it tough to make it to their workplaces on time with the incessant rains resulting in water-logging in several areas. Many of them opted to travel by state government buses, suburban train services and Metro Rail.

Some Dos and Don'ts while driving in the rains

Most roads were left in a damaged state, with motorists finding it hard to negotiate potholes.

At Adyar, a part of the road near the Madhya Kailash intersection had caved in on Monday, prompting authorities to redirect traffic on the busy stretch.

Flight operations also took a hit due to the inclement weather. Airport officials said one flight, which left Colombo this morning, returned.

Puducherry, which was pounded by rains since last night recorded 15.2 cm rain in the last 24 hours ending 0830 today, disrupting normal life. A holiday was declared for educational institutions.

Suburban services hit

The suburban train services operating between Chennai Beach and Tambaram has been hit due to severe rains in the cities. Suburban trains, which were plying upto Pallavaram, has now been restored upto Tambaram after 3 pm. Train services from Chengalpet and Thirumalpur to Chennai Beach were running slowly, according to railway sources. Chennai Central-Tiruvallur line was disrupted too. MRTS services is functioning normally.

Chennai floods: Once again, social media is helping Indians while the government flounders!

Chennai, in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, is battling its worst rains in a century. Over the last month, the capital city has been transformed from a bustling hub of over 4.5 million people to a partly submerged wreck.

Already 188 people have died in Tamil Nadu due to rain-related incidents, and thousands have been forced to evacuate from their homes. “State police, fire and rescue services, state and national disaster response forces and coast guard are ready to rescue people using boats,” Tamil Nadu chief minister, J.Jayalalithaa, said yesterday (Dec. 1). “Adequate precautionary measures are being taken to protect people.”

But as the government flounders, ordinary citizens are coming together on social media to either send or seek help. The online effo

rt is similar to what happened in March 2015, when the north Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir was hit by massive floods. People who wanted help, or could help, used #KashmirFloods to connect on Twitter and Facebook.

Since yesterday, #ChennaiRainsHelp and #ChennaiFloods have become among the most used hashtags on Twitter in India, utilised to offer shelter, food, transport, and even mobile recharges.

A crowdsourced effort to map inundated roads in Chennai has been undertaken on social media. Over 2,400 flooded roads have been added to the city’s map, which was put together by engineer and information designer, Arun Ganesh.

Another week of heavy rain approaching Chennai, Tamilnadu!

The Northeast Monsoon that brings bulk of rain in Tamil Nadu is likely to revive over the state in next 24-48 hours. Bountiful rains are in forecast for Chennai, Tamil Nadu which may again bring the flood threat over the state.

Peninsular India observes very good rain during the Northeast Monsoon season, particularly Tamil Nadu. In fact the state being a rain shadow area, receives more rains during the Northeast Monsoon season as compared to the Southwest Monsoon season.

According to the data available with Skymet Meteorology Division in India, the coastal areas of the state receive 60% of their annual rainfall during the Northeast Monsoon period, while the interiors observe 50% of their annual rainfall. During the four-month long period (June to September) of Southwest Monsoon, Tamil Nadu receives only 317 mm of rain, while the Northeast Monsoon season from October to December gives a good 438 mm of rain in the state.

Rainfall during the Northeast Monsoon depends on atmospheric systems. Also the El Nino plays an important role in enhancing rainfall activity during this period. While its impact on the Southwest Monsoon is adverse. This time around Northeast Monsoon is expected to end with 111% rainfall of the LPA, with a probability of 88%.

Characteristic of NE Monsoon Rains

During the Northeast Monsoon season, weather systems like low pressure areas and cyclonic circulations move in lower latitudes of Bay of Bengal and reach the state across southwest Bay.

Unlike the Southwest Monsoon, where the weather systems are spread well, the Northeast Monsoon observes a sequence of weather systems. These weather systems have a characteristic of giving rain for three to four days and thereafter taking a break for a couple of days.

Rainfall in Tamil Nadu in November

Meanwhile, the state with 485 mm of rain so far has already exceeded the seasonal average of 438 mm. In November alone the state has received 352 mm of rain, which is more than the monthly average of 170 mm.

The state capital Chennai has also witnessed some very heavy rains this time. In fact, the city has received 1186 mm of rain in the month of November so far, which is three times the monthly average of 407 mm. On five occasions in November Chennai recorded three digit 24 hour rainfall. The highest being 265 mm between November 15 and 16.

Such heavy rains are not uncommon during this season. However, these spells are not sudden and can be forecast.

And with one more month of active Northeast Monsoon left, the rainfall figures in the state are expected to really shoot up. Also the cyclones which form in the Bay of Bengal have a tendency to move towards Tamil Nadu during December and give heavy to very heavy rain, particularly along the coast.

Another Heavy Spell Approaching

Meanwhile, from November 29 another spell of heavy rain is going to hit the state, particularly southern parts of Tamil Nadu. A low pressure area supported by a cyclonic circulation in the south-west Bay of Bengal will give this rain. According to meteorologists at Skymet, this system will move very slowly and stay in the region for some time. The period of intense rain would be between December 1 and December 3.

Fresh spell of heavy rain approaching Tamilnadu!

During the month of November, many areas of Tamil Nadu have received torrential rains. Record breaking rain has been witnessed in many parts of the state. For instance, the capital city, Chennai has broken a century old rainfall record for November.

However, in the last 48 hours, very little rain has occurred over Tamil Nadu, which is a huge relief from the deluge being witnessed by the state. This weather condition can be attributed to the dry north-easterly winds, which are cutting off the moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal. Also, easterly waves have been weak leading to a significant decrease in rainfall activity and cloud cover.

Almost dry weather conditions will continue for another 48 hours due to which flood waters will recede from various parts of the state. Also, rescue operations will undergo smoothly under dry weather conditions.

Fresh Spell of Rain Expected:

However, on the darker side, a fresh cyclonic circulation, which is over South Andaman Sea will induce a low-pressure area. This system will move in a west-north-west direction towards the Sri Lanka coast.

By 28th evening, heavy rain will commence over the southern parts of Tamil Nadu. The rainfall activity will gradually spread over other coastal areas including the state capital, Chennai and its adjoining areas. By November 29, heavy to very heavy rain is expected over most parts of Coastal Tamil Nadu. During this period, Interior Tamil Nadu will continue to receive light to moderate rainfall activity.

Thereafter, another cyclonic circulation is likely to emerge over the same area but it will move towards the Andhra Coast and give rain over Andhra Pradesh by December 2.

The much expected Arrambam track list!

Ajith - Nayan

Sony Music India, who holds the music rights for Ajith’s Arrambam, has finally revealed the tracklist. The album has five songs composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja and written by Pa Vijay.

As reported earlier, leading playback singer, Shankar Mahadevan has sung the introduction song for Ajith and it has now come to our knowledge that the title of the song is Adadada Arrambame. It is said that Thala Ajith will be as stunning as ever in this song.

The second track in the album is ‘En Fuse Pochu’ and this track features singers Karthik and Ramya. Tanvi Shah and Shakthisree Gopalan have crooned the third track ‘Hare Rama’

Vijay Yesudas, Ranjith and Swetha Mohan have lent their voices for the track, ‘Melala Vedikkudhu’. The final track, ‘Stylish Thamizhachi’ features Manasi, Rubba Bend and Psycho Unit.

Meanwhile, Arrambam starring Ajith, Arya, Nayanthara, Taapsee, Mahesh Manjrekar, Atul Kulkarni and Suman Ranganathan has been scheduled for a Diwali release.

It’s all official now. Behindwoods had earlier mentioned that Ajith’s Arrambam audio could release on the 19^th of September and just moments ago sources in the camp have confirmed the same. The album scored by Yuvan Shankar Raja has a total of five songs. The interesting thing is that the album will come out without any big function or gala event and the album is expected to hit the stores directly.

The film starring Ajith, Arya, Nayantara, Taapsee and Rana Daggubatti under Vishnuvardhan’s direction is easily one of this year’s most anticipated films and the film’s release has been fixed for Deepavali 2013. But for Ajith and Yuvan fans the festivities may well commence from September 19^th onwards.
